Bertrand Chamayou has established himself at the highest level on the international music scene, performing in venues such as Paris’ Théâtre des Champs Elysées, New York’s Lincoln Center, Munich’s Herkulessaal and London’s Wigmore Hall. He has appeared at major festivals including Mostly Mozart, Lucerne and Rheingau, as well as the Rotterdam Gergiev Festival and Klavier-Festival Ruhr.

 

He has worked with orchestras including the London and Rotterdam Philharmonic orchestras, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, hr-Sinfonieorchester, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and Orchestre National de France. Conductor collaborations have included Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, Sir Neville Marriner, Semyon Bychkov, Michel Plasson, Louis Langrée, Jérémie Rhorer, Stéphane Denève, Ludovic Morlot and Andris Nelsons.

In the 2013/14 season, Chamayou made his debuts with the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester at Berlin’s Philharmonie and the NDR Sinfonieorchester in Hamburg. This season he returns to the Orchestre de Paris, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and La Chambre Philharmonique amongst many others. He makes his debut with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.

Chamayou is a regular chamber music performer, with partners including Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Quatuor Ebène, Antoine Tamestit and Sol Gabetta. A recital tour with Gabetta in 2014/15 leads the duo to Zurich’s Tonhalle, Baden-Baden’s Festspielhaus, Berlin’s Philharmonie and Munich’s Prinzregententheater, amongst others. With fellow-pianist Roger Muraro he performs Messiaen’sVisions de l’Amen at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Additonally, he takes his all-Schubert recital programme to festivals including Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Menuhin Festival Gstaad and Festival International de Piano La Roque d’Antheron, as well as to Vienna’s Konzerthaus and venues in Madrid, Lyon, Bordeaux and Tallinn.

Bertrand Chamayou has made a number of highly successful recordings, including a Naïve CD of music by César Franck, which was awarded several accolades including Gramophone Editor’s Choice. In 2011, Chamayou celebrated Liszt’s 200th anniversary with a Naïve recording of the complete Années de Pèlerinage, which he performed in several venues throughout the world. The album was acclaimed worldwide – including a Gramophone Choice recognition. The only artist to win France’s prestigious Victoires de la Musique on three occasions, he has recently signed an exclusive recording contract with Warner/Erato.

Bertrand Chamayou was born in Toulouse. His musical talent was quickly noted by pianist Jean-François Heisser who later became his professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He completed his training with Maria Curcio in London.
